Bodega Bay Fishing. Bodega Bay is a haven for the finest fishing on the Northern Coast, where the big fish are caught–salmon, halibut, rock cod and ling cod–and sport crabbing is popular among tourists. Discover several fishing charters and excursions, marinas, boat landings and parks for Bay and deep-sea fishing in these cooler Pacific waters. For more information, visit www.bodegabay.com.

Bodega Bay Whale Watching. The epic annual migration of gray whales from the Chukchi Sea off northern Alaska to the lagoons off the Baja Peninsula of Mexico is visible from January through April. A superb vantage point is the ocean overlook at Bodega Head and the whale watching boat trips from Bodega. Many whale watch volunteers, members of the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods (formerly called the Stewards of Slavianka), work in partnership with California State Parks to protect the natural and cultural resources of the Russian River District. The Stewards at Bodega Head have displays about whales.
Bodega Bay Birding. Bodega Bay is the hottest birding spot in Sonoma County. Owl Canyon, “Hole-Wonderful In-The-Head” and the bushes below Diekmann’s Store have consistently yielded finds. Doran Regional Park, on the sand spit that separates Bodega Bay from the harbor, is a great place to view pelagic birds on the ocean or in flight, and Snowy Plovers live above the high tide line on the beach, especially at its east end. Shorebird flocks gather on the mudflats and waterfowl use the open water on the harbor side of the park along the eastern half of the sand spit. Horseback Riding. Enjoy an equestrian adventure as you ride along winding coastal trails offering breathtaking vistas of the Bay and Ocean. Chanslor Ranch in Bodega Bay rents horses for riding along the beautiful dune trails. With 147 miles of trails that take you from forested mountain tops, grassy meadows, coastal scrub and miles of white sand beaches, the Point Reyes National Seashore is another amazing environment for horseback riding. Five Brooks Stable provides guided trail rides through the magnificent wonders of Pt. Reyes, a great alternative to enjoying the park’s splendor. www.chanslor.com
